Research centers

The Institute for Drug Research is comprised of a unique collection of accomplished scientists - national research and drug development. Research and experimentation take place in the researcher's laboratories at the School. The Institute encourages interdisciplinary research for drug development, from drug forecasting and planning, to chemical synthesis, pharmacological and toxicological examination of the proposed remedy to the choice of optimal ways of providing drug and tracing removal from the body.

Within The School of Pharmacy there are four research centers which encourage, support and promote scientific research on drug:

The David R. Bloom Center for Pharmacy

The David R. Center Bloom's Pharmacy was established in October 1991 by Canadian and US advocates of the Hebrew University through Mr. David Bloom's contribution.

The Center assists in innovative research in the field of pharmacy, through research grants, support for international conferences held in Israel, advanced doctoral student travel, overseas conferences, and assistance in acquiring equipment needed for research groups within the field.

The Center's Managing Academic Committee:

Prof. Rami Yaka, Chairman

Prof. Roni Cohen, Director

Prof. Amnon Hoffman

Prof. Danny Gibson

Prof. Eylon Yavin

The Alex Grass Center for Drug Design and Novel Therapeutics

The Alex Grass Center for Drug Design and Synthesis was established in 1993 in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, at the School of Pharmacy. The Center was established as a token of appreciation for Mr. Alex Grass's distinctive contribution. The Center is funded by US supporters of the Hebrew University's. Mr. A. Grass was previously Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Hebrew University and the founder of one of the largest drugstore chain "Rite Aid" in the United States.

The center focuses on two scientific aspects: drug design, and the synthesis of biologically active substances. The Alex Grass Center supports interdisciplinary research aimed at building bridges between the diverse fields in drug design and natural resource synthesis, and research at the School of Pharmacy.

The Center provides support for innovative research, funding of international conferences in the field held in Israel, doctoral students travel grants, and assists in the acquisition of research equipment needed by research groups within the center.

The Adolph and Klara Berettler Medical Research Center

The Adolph and Clara Bartler Center was inaugurated in 1984 following an agreement between the late Adolf Bartler and Prof. Raphael Mechoulam. The purpose of the Center is to support basic, unique research in the field of molecular pharmacology, and to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in drug development and innovative treatment methods.

The support of the center is expressed by the granting of modest research grants, scholarships for research students and the purchase of scientific equipment for use by the members of the center.

Multidisciplinary Center on Cannabinoid Research (MCCR)

The Hebrew University Multidisciplinary Center on Cannabinoid Research (MCCR) was established in May 2016 in an aim to integrate and coordinate the research activities of multiple research laboratories at the Hebrew University into interdisciplinary networks. One of its major objectives is to foster collaborations between its own participating laboratories and many other well-established groups around the globe who are conducting research on cannabinoids, endocannabinoids and medical Cannabis. Additionally, the center holds conferences and workshops, supports research of doctoral students, and fosters relations with industries aimed at promoting the production of therapeutics based on research results in this field.
